Dear Reader, Issue 27

Dear Reader,

We hope you’re well rested after Passover. With all the intensive food prep, hours of reading the Haggadah, and going to great lengths to avoid matzah crumbs getting everywhere, it is an especially busy few weeks. Passover, aholiday favourite for many, is  often a joyous time spent with loved ones, and now that it has ended, we hope to offer you time spent doing what you love: reading a new issue of Niv

Fortunately, with Passover always comes the promise of spring and warmer weather (in Toronto this change of season is most welcome). And while we may be in the midst of April showers, it’s wonderful seeing the crocuses begin to emerge.

In our 27th issue, many of the stories revolve around themes of resilience, perseverance, and service, which define the story of Passover. The holiday is over, but we carry its teachings forward.

This issue explores one cantor’s surprising encounter while hosting a Seder, what we can learn from Moses’ leadership, the importance of inclusion in Ontario’s arts spaces, why theatre-goers can’t wait for a Yiddish production of Fiddler on the Roof, a family’s perseverance when travelling to America during the Holocaust, and how music can uplift and transform poetry from a beloved Jewish writer.

With every issue, we hope the stories offer a rich tapestry of Jewish experiences and life. Every member in the Jewish community feels and expresses their Judaism differently. At Niv, we want the work in our digital pages to reflect the multifaceted nature of the Jewish experience.

Warmly,

Clarrie & Orly
